Music On My Mind

So Christmas has finished and now everyone can look forward to the new year where ( I hope) many resolutions will be kept!

I am very busy at the moment recording a new Album for Sleep Record and finishing off my solo Album. It has been a very long time since any music has been released from me and the new material is sounding really great. I cant wait to get it out there.

A few days ago I was asked to complete a Risk assessment form for the run. That was pretty fun. I personally cant see the point of it. The risks are many and vast. There is a significant chance of injury disease or death.  But I don't really give a fuck (I have broken the swear seal I anticipate many more once I am stuck in a tent in the middle of the Alps with nothing but my thoughts and right hand to keep me warm) .

I am making the most of my time off over Christmas.; When Uni comes around its going to be a very surreal existence. I don't really mind not drinking anymore or spending most of my time in bed, for me as long as I have a few true Friends around me (which I luckily have down there!) time will fly by and it will be D-Day.  I'm feeling great at the moment in terms of fitness during the snow I was forced to run 9 miles back home with a heavy load of (I would guess) 30 pounds from Crawley back to Redhill gaining nothing but some sore hips for a day or two.

As well as the physical preparation for the trip, I am going to have to start putting in some more hours getting some more money for Wateraid. Hopefully the University will get behind me and all targets should be reached by March.

One more week of bliss. Then the work begins

its going to be fun ;)

The Rough Regime

Here is a sneek peak at the training regime I have set up for the run, Its is just a very rough plan to give us idea on miles.

A Little Less Conversation A Little More Action

From day one I knew the magnitude of the task I have chosen to undertake. Although I may appear a bit "gung ho" about certain aspects of the plan and have a no worries mantra towards possible pitfalls this is simply my nature and I cannot change it.

I fully recognise my reality and relish in it and it is this reality of the present that I choose to focus the majority of my energy on rather the the endless possibilities of the future. There are only three main obstacles which I am focusing on and I (like any other budding student studying American politics) have abbreviated them! They are the FPJ'S.

F stands for fundraising. I intend to raise a minimum of 5 thousand pounds before I run and another 2 thousand pounds whilst I am running. I also intend to raise 1,500 pounds for me to live on whilst I am running.

How will I achieve this?

I have set up a Justgiving page, a really innovative idea (which I wish I conceived!) where donors can quickly and easily donate through a profile page describing what I am doing. I am also receiving a huge amount of help from wateraid themselves who will be sending me buckets, T-shirts and other items to help sap out the pennies of my fellow students :)

In terms of my personal living costs I hope to gain some cooperate sponsorship. Despite my views im not going to rubbish this option, who knows I may be approached by some reasonably ethical company's... but I wont count on it. And besides I don't want this to turn into one big marketing opportunity for a new "ethical MacDonald's water campaign". So I will be saving my pennies. I have worked out that I can save a minimum of 500 pounds out of my own pocket, with a further 300 pounds coming from DJ'ing.  I will also be asking friends/family to donate to my personal living costs and I would expect a return of 400 pounds.  Making my total before departure 1,200 pounds ( I still need to work on the 300 pounds!)

P stand for Physical.

Naturally anyone who wants to do what I am doing has to be at there physical and mental peak.  I would not of made this daring challenge if I didn't think I could do it. I have been testing myself physically since I could walk, I have fought, performed and travelled the globe to tame the adventurer in me, but it cannot be tamed. This challenge is simply a raising of the bar and the first step in my life ambition to be a selected for a mission to Mars or some other suicidal  attempt at travelling the cosmos (granted I will not be the most useful member in a team filled with of the worlds finest pilots and astrophyicts but someones got to do the dishes). But more importantly I want to do something meaningful.

I am looking around the world today and we have all become so selfish its unreal The fundamental concepts of  Capitalism has ingrained in everyone of us the notion that money will buy you happiness (it will only buy temporary happiness like a shot of heroin in the veins). I am truly happy seeing other people happy, and there a lot of people on Earth who are not happy at all. Every human being should be able to drink some fresh water, have a roof over there heads at night and be able to live free of  being shot at. And I will feel content knowing I have left the world making one persons life better. So how will I become a physical specimen?

I intend to draft a training regime other Christmas ( with the advice of qualified sports scientist and nutritionists ) over the next few weeks. And install into my life a nomadic existence based on training, eating and sleeping. If a man with one leg can run across America. A man with two legs and a litre of Ginseng juice can run to Rome. By June I will be in the shape of my life.

J stands for...Journey!

This is a no brainer. I will need to plan adequate accommodation and draft a route which will give me both the fastest and safest route to Rome. This shall be done thought the use of Google and some very cool books I have!

Anything else health....the weather....what happens if I get attacked by a brown bear cannot be changed. Therefore I really don't care about them. A little less conversation...a little more action.

 Im going for a run.

Hello

My name is James. Welcome to this Blog. In June I am running to Rome for Wateraid.

I have always enjoyed testing myself physically and mentally. When I was 16 I began training in MMA which gave me an excellent platform to give me my adrenaline fix. At 19 I embarked on an expidition across the globe with my friend Max, starting from London and ending in a police car in Singapore (Its a long story).
We managed to travel the world with very little money. We landed in Sydney with around 7 dollars to our name and managed to survive until our next flight a month later! (with thanks from donations from our loving parents of course!)
In October I was sitting in my room pondering over a recent documentry I watched regarding the state of third world debt. I had seen many of these  types of documentries before but for some reason, this time, something awoke inside me. I had the sudden urge to get off my overfed, pampered student behind and attempt to do something about our messed up planet!
Two days later I was pondering what to do when I fell asleep and had a dream where the idea of running to Rome for charity came to me. I awoke and the rest is history!
I am running to Rome, from London in June for Water aid. Clean Water is extremely easy to access in the UK yet it is something virtually unattainable for a significant part of the worlds population.
We have been so lucky to have been raised in an enviroment where we can drink whenever we feel the slightest pang of thirst. I want to embark on this challenge to test my body to the extreme by running over a thousand miles in temperatures of over 30 degrees for 8 weeks, I am doing this because I want to be humbled and made appreciative of how important water is for our survival.
I will not be alone as always my good friend Maxwell Hannah will join me in this quest. We have both gone around the world together travelling and we managed to survive  long spells in each others company in bad conditions without killing each other!
We hope that we will have some company on this run. However this is no sponsored walk. Each member of the team will have to carry with them a potential minimum weight of 10kg whilst running a virtual marathon every day for 8 weeks (20 miles a day). Conditions will be hot and luxuries such as baths and a bed will be few and far between. This is a test of human character and we will be carrying the hopes of many people who have invested into us completing the run in a blistering time!
I would consider myself fit at this present time, however in order to complete this quest I and the rest of the team will have to reach a stage of fitness simular to a Commonwealth games long distance runner. That is why, from January the 3rd a regime of training will be implemented which will give us the physical and mental stamina to complete this task.
I cannot guarantee that we will complete the run in 8 weeks. But I can guarantee that the only things that will prevent us from stepping foot into Rome will be death or serious injury. I have never surrendered to a challenge before and I will not surrender to this challenge knowing that hundreds of people across the world will be able to have access to clean accesbile water for the rest of there lives by setting foot into Rome.
